New Initiative to Strengthen Blekinge’s Businesses Through AI Technology

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is at the forefront of a technological revolution transforming society. Integrating AI into business operations is a strategic necessity to remain competitive. By automating tasks, optimizing programming, and analyzing massive datasets at high speeds, AI opens new avenues for growth and innovation. However, it also poses challenges, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that often lack the resources and expertise to keep pace.

AI and Blekinge’s labor market

Today, Blekinge is one of Sweden’s leading regions in technological innovation and digital development. Approximately 2,500 jobs in the region are directly affected by the technological transition driven by AI. To ensure Blekinge’s businesses capitalize on AI’s potential, a collective effort is required, bringing together resources and knowledge from companies, academia, and public sector actors.

“Blekinge is at a pivotal moment where AI is not just a challenge but an opportunity to strengthen our position as an innovation-driven region,” says Jesper Bleeke, Innovation Leader at Tech Concept Lab.

AI Lab Blekinge – A project investing in the future

AI Lab Blekinge is a groundbreaking project designed to address the challenges and opportunities brought by AI. The project unites tech-sector companies in Blekinge, including Ericsson, Blue Science Park, Avalon Innovation, Softhouse, Försäkringskassan, and Hyper Island, with world-class researchers from Blekinge Institute of Technology.

“Investing in AI is no longer optional for companies aiming to remain competitive, it is a necessity. Companies that successfully integrate AI into their operations will benefit from increased efficiency, improved decision-making, innovation capabilities, and effective risk management,” says Chat GPT and Helene Högberg, CEO of Avalon Innovation agrees.

Over the next three years, the project will focus on cutting-edge research in generative AI and work to apply and integrate advanced AI technologies. The knowledge gained through this collaboration will be shared via training initiatives with a broader audience of SMEs in the region.

“AI Lab Blekinge is about putting people at the center of technological development. By staying ahead and uniting efforts across industry, academia, and the public sector, we create opportunities for businesses to grow while empowering our employees and community to thrive. At Softhouse, it is crucial not only to adapt to the future but to actively shape it—with human knowledge, creativity, and courage as the driving forces,” says Jörgen Persson, CEO of Softhouse in Blekinge.
