Project: AI Lab Blekinge

The AI Lab Blekinge project: Strengthening the region’s AI capabilities

The rapid development of AI technology presents significant challenges for Blekinge’s tech sector, particularly within software development.

The technology is expected to revolutionize the industry by automating programming processes, potentially reducing the need for traditional programming skills. At the same time, AI offers opportunities to enhance code quality, accelerate software delivery, and efficiently manage complex problems.

The AI Lab Blekinge project addresses these challenges and aims to strengthen the region’s ability to navigate and leverage the potential of AI technology.

Within the project, a group of tech companies (Ericsson, Avalon, Softhouse, Försäkringskassan, and Hyper Island) receive guidance from world-leading researchers at Blekinge Institute of Technology to apply and integrate AI technologies such as LLMs (Large Language Models) and Multimodal AI. The knowledge generated is then disseminated through educational initiatives to a broader audience of SMEs in Blekinge’s tech sector. This approach includes evidence-based experiments and knowledge-sharing activities, with the goal of enhancing companies’ abilities to develop and integrate new technologies into their development processes.

The project is carried out in three stages:

Step 1 – Creating new knowledge

The participating companies research generative AI, its applications, and its implications for their respective organizations.

Step 2 – Developing new education

Hyper Island and Blekinge Institute of Technology explore the future of education related to generative AI. This includes developing new upskilling and reskilling initiatives in the short and medium term to meet the growing demand for AI-related competencies.

Step 3 – Knowledge dissemination

The project promotes the adoption of generative AI among small and medium-sized enterprises through targeted workshops as well as broad information and communication initiatives.
